Iran’s Khademalsharieh Wins Silver At World Chess Blitz Championship

Sarasadat Khademalsharieh from Iran claimed a silver medal at the World Blitz Chess Championship on Sunday.

Russian Kateryna Lagno won the Women’s Section and repeated her success of 2010. She collected 13.5 points.

Khademalsharieh took the silver with 13 points and the bronze medal went to Chinese Lei Tingjie who scored 12.5 points.

The chess players with the best combined score also received special rewards. Magnus Carlsen won the prize in the Open Section and Sarasadat Khademalsharieh got it in the Women’s Section.

The Iranian chess player had already won a silver medal in the World Rapid Championship on Saturday.

The 2018 King Salman FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championships took place place in St. Petersburg, Russia from December 26th to 30th.

The format was a 21-round Swiss open.

Khademalsharieh won a total of $90,000 cash prize in the competitions.
