Russia Swiftly Dismisses Media Reports Of Its Displeasure With Assad’s Visit To Iran

The Russian ambassador to Tehran, Levan Dzhagaryan denied on Wednesday media reports claiming Moscow was displeased with the recent visit of Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad to Iran saying “We were never worried about this visit”.

Dzhagaryan described in a statement the media reports about Moscow’s displeasure with Assad’s visit as “baseless” Russia Today news site reported.

He added that the aim of spreading such reports was “to create a rift in the Iranian-Russian-Syrian relations” stressing that media outlets that circulated the news did not succeed in their goal.

“We are committed to our friendship and our commitment to Iran both in the nuclear agreement and in other issues such as human rights and regional policies,” Dzhagaryan said, adding that Washington and its allies’ criticisms of Iran on regional policies were “baseless”.

“We are satisfied with the current level of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia in various fields,” he said, expressing hope that the banking problems between the two countries would be resolved through joint efforts.

Russia and Iran are scheduled to discuss the development of bilateral economic cooperation during the next meeting of the Russian-Iranian Joint Committee scheduled in June.
