Iran Freestyle Team Wins 2019 Asian Wrestling Championships

At the end of day 2 of the 2019 Asian Championships which was held in China’s Xi’an on 23-24 April, the Iranian freestyle wrestlers were crowned champions after clinching 7 gold medals and 3 bronzes.

Reza Atri defeated Kang Kumsong (PRK) 9-3 in the 57kg, Behnam Ehsanpour won gold after defeating LIU Minghu (CHN) 2-1 in the 61kg, Bahman Teymouri beat Parveen Rana (IND) 3-0 in the 79kg, Kamran Ghasempour defeated posted a 10-0 victory over Aligarizhi Gamidgadzhiev (KGZ) in 86kg, Alireza Karimi took gold medal with a 11-0 win over Viky Viky (IND) in the 92kg, Reza Yazdani beat Batzul Ulziisaikhan (MGL) 7-4 in the 97kg and Yadollah Mohebbi took Iran’s seventh gold after beating DENG Zhiwei (CHN) 2-1 in the 125kg.

Peyman Biabani (65kg), Younes Emami (70kg) and Mohammad Nokhodi (74kg) also claimed three bronze medals.

Iran became champion with 220 points followed by India (155pts) and Kazakhstan (129pts) in the second and third places, respectively.

In a message on Thursday, Ayatollah Khamenei congratulated the young wrestlers on winning the Asian games.
