The progress of unearthing

As the weeks went by, it had become very clear to me that my role as
a documentary photographer on this journey had become increasingly irrelevant
to the images I was producing hence achieving my favorite photographs towards
the later half of our journey when I had learned to use the camera not
just as a tool for recording but as a means of expression. Compositions
of Mayan sights and breathtaking landscapes held no real meaning for me.
The last thing I wanted to do was to recreate an alternative angle on
images readily found in journals such as the National Geographic.
I wanted the aura of my surroundings and more importantly, the people we
encountered to be translated into my own images. Emotion, whether it be
humour or melancholy was my foremost intention.
