The Iranian
Good Bye to the Good Humor Man
I found the dime
Bakhtiari Persian rugs on the great golden rock
from Papa's pocket
Idaho, light on the mountain
in the side of the blue
crying for a father
velvet couch from Sears
drunken mother
1939 full of fears
wet sheets
I bought a good Humor bar
feel my belly
I took a bite
a big juicy pear
it was soft
to be in love or loved by somebody
creamy white
the sailors and sea gulls
covered with chocolate
I liked him
With a stick in the center
till he asked me to say yes
what a horrible moment
and the Spanish girls laughing
I was going to be here forever
with Nellie in her yellow robe
on Holt Avenue
washing dishes
with a Japanese gardener
eating sushi
in Los Angeles
pink and blue and yellow houses
getting fat
wu-wei doing nothing
on Good Humor bars
drums beat at the gates of Kandahar
I must not wait
the moving finger writes
for shells in Nice
white stars appeared
Olives in my Salad
Two moons in Katmandu
Nicosia
a sacred cow with a marigold lei
for me the cypress and rue
the breath of a buffalo
Dufy's crystal blue and violet hue
etched clear upon the pallid sand
accordion playing in the street
perfumed sandal wood in Jaipur
sail away from California
I missed the boat to China
where the Good Humor man
alone with Apollo
and his Pavlovian bell
may make you stop
my only dream
the pistachio trees
in Isfahan orchards
to write gardenias
he kissed me under
floating in the stone
the Moorish wall
pool
that never runs dry
with the moon
la fuite de la lune
and Picasso
hold on to the center
dancing way way
it never fails
into the night
the nightingale cries to the rose
between the
bird is on the wing
Good Humor bar
Tao Te Ching
and the morning
went its way
star
Caravanserai
without a dime
ah, with the Grape
so bury me by some
sweet Garden-side
