    Meeting in Moscow

    June 5, 1998
    The Iranian

The following pages describe the meeting in Moscow between a group of Iranian writers living in the U.S. with Siyavash Kasraie (1926-1996), best known for his epic poem "Arash Kamaangir". Kasraie was living in the Russian capital since leaving Iran in the early 1980s, when he was wanted for his leading role in the Tudeh Party. During the meeting, he avoids talking about the Tudeh days and reads one of his last poems -- a heart-wrenching cry for the "land of the sun."

This excerpt is from Massoud Sepand's book "bouy-e jou-ye mouliyan" (1996, San Jose, California), a diary of his trip to Tajikistan in 1994.
