Flame of Persia
A documentary written by Shahrokh Golestan (1971), 55 minutes
Monday June 14, 2004 8:45 PM

One of the most interesting aspects of this telling documentary is the fact that it is narrated by Orson Wells, when he had been all but forgotten by Hollywood. In his trademark Citizen Canish voice, Wells tells the story of lavish ceremonies in Persepolis marking 2,500 years of Iranian monarchy. This is a public relations film made by the Iranian state cinema organization aimed at foreign audiences in the early '70s. Depending on your political views, many will either love this documentary or hate it. Flames of Persian will enflame sensitive passions on this key moment in Iran's contemporary history.
