Tactless attention-seeking
About 20 minutes ago I saw your new feature 'Iranian of the Day' on
your website for the first time. Since today October 23rd of the year
2000 (avalle Aban mAh), I am a man of 25 years, the following question
came to my mind: "So where's my picture?!"
Most Iranians have mastered the "art" of tactless in-your-face
attention seeking behavior. The following joke is my contribution to your
website (and Persian culture):
ye dahati (of course with all due respect to hard working men and women
who are the salt of the earth and backbone of any economy, ehm...) meereh
shahr barAyeh khAstegAri. Ghabl az eenke bereh be sooyeh khAneyeh dokhtar-khanoom,
ghom-va-kheeshAnash peeshnehAd meekonand ke avval tamreen bekonad.
Az khAstegar meeporsand: "khob fekr kon ke hAlA raftee khAneyeh
dokhtareh. bAd az dar zadan chee meegee?"
Khastegareh dAhAti: "meegom ke moyom!"
yeki az aghvAm: "na aziz, bAyad begee ke 'manam!' agar begee 'moyom,'
meegan ke to dAhAti hasti va be darde dokhtareshoon nemeekhori.'
khastegar: "mo aggeh begom ke 'manam' baad dar-ro va meekoneh meebeeneh
ke een MOYOM!"
ehm... Well work with me. It was after all my birthday. Moyom! I don't
want to grow up.
Sincerely,
Vahid Grami (or "Vahidoo"
as I am referred to by my Shirazi relatives.)
PS: I live in Minneapolis Minnesota USA and attend the University of
Minnesota. The climate is similar to that of Shiraz.
