The Iranian
You may have always doubted Googoosh's talents as an entertainer. You
may think she is a false idol whose influence on pop culture died with
the 1979 revolution. You are in a very small minority.
Googoosh has not perfomed in 20 years. She chose to remain in Iran after
1979 and has kept a low profile. Yet she sells more CDs and tapes than
any other Iranian artist. Hikers sing her songs on Tehran's mountain trails.
Children who were born after she stopped singing, listen to her tapes on
Walkmans at school. And she is practically worshipped in Tajikistan, where
many speak Persian. She is, without a doubt, the most-loved Iranian alive.

* Part of everyone's life
Dear Googoosh,
It has been a long time since I have seen you. You were my and my family's
favorite singer. I used to listen to your music all the time. You made
me feel good when I was sad and depressed. You were part of everyone's
life not only in Iran but other countries too. I used to collect your pictures
and my friends used to do the same and I remember that in school me and
my classmate would exchange your pictures in class. I used to ask my friends:
"Who do like better; Googoosh or Farah?"
I am sure everyone is missing you and I wish you could come to the USA.
I bilieve that no one can take your place as far as music. You were number
one and nobody could beat you. You were always innovative and as far as
i remember others were trying to copy you including me. I loved you style
and everything about you. I don't want to take your time and wish you well
and success like always. Please return my e-mail and I'll be honered if
you do so. I can write forever but I am at work so I am going back to work.

Dear Googoosh,
Let me to thank you for your songs and to say that I am glad, because
I live in the same time as you. I am 38, and I am from Tajikistan. You
are the favorite person in my homeland. Nobody had so much influence as
you did on the political, cultural and national revival of Tajiks during
70 years of Soviet rule. Your songs, coming from the other side of the
Iron Curtain inspired people to think, to survive, to live and to love.
You were a divine voice, which awoke us. You were a representative of Iran
and Persian language and culture.
Rain ... Iron Curtain... Eyes full of sadness... Dark and quiet streets...
That was Tajikistan a few years ago. [Journalist] Muahiddin Alimpour was
our messenger, who brought your love to us. But he was killed shortly after
Tajik independence.
We would like to listen to your new songs. Even "qissai digar nadoram,'
but 'jodeh faryod mezanad biyo'. We would like to listen to your new songs,
one of which should be about Muahiddin and Tajikistan, small beautiful
country in the heart of Asia. I hope.

* Feel songs were made for me

Hi. I don't have much to say except that I really love your work and
your songs. Everytime I listen to your songs, I get all those wonderful
old memories back. I feel like all those songs were made for me. I chose
the song "Pol" as the first song in my wedding video :-) That
was the song that me and my old boyfriend (who's now in Tehran) used to
listen to all the time and we had our best memories with that song. I'm
sure you are still as great and beautiful as you were, and I hope you'll

* Why did you leave us?
Dear Googoosh,
I'm a young Iranian guy. Unfortunately I was not old enough to enjoy
the time you were active as a singer but I`ve seen your movies and I've
heard your songs. It's easy to understand why you and your songs are a
part of every iranian's life.Your songs bring joy and at the same time
sorrow to the heart. You know better than everybody else who you are and
what you mean to us, so there's no need to explain.
I have some questions but surely they are not only mine but every iranian's.
Why did you leave us? Why don't you want to sing for all of those people
who are and will always be faithful to you? Don't you see that we are still

music & your dancing. Like any other little girl I always wanted to
be Googoosh right up to the tender age of seven - so much so that I did
not want to go to school- every morning my Dad would get me up at six am

As punishment he would beat the souls of my feet with his slippers (it
never hurt of course). Anyway even now I still want to be Googoosh at the

I can't begin to tell you how much I miss you; how much we all miss

* Long Live GooGoosh!
Dear Googoosh,
I have been listening to your music since I was a young kid. I remember
my family used to gather around the TV whenever it was your turn at the
"Honar Baraye Mardom." I brought ALL of your albums with me when
I came to the U.S. Now I'm a proud owner of most of your albums on CD which
for the most part has good quality sound except for a few songs, which
in comparison to the old tapes that I brought with me, have a better sound
quality. I would like to express my great appreciation to you for all the
contributions that you have had over modern Iranian music and in my case
being part of my growing up as a teenager.
Still after over 20 years or so, as I listen to your music, it is a
good reminder of those years back home. I have always been puzzled as to
why you have decided not to sing for your fans and not for commercial reasons.
Why? Also if I may suggest writing a book about yourself which hopefully
will put an end to all the roumers that have been around all these years.

I love you and your music. I have seen all of your movies. I have all
of your CD's. I luve in Toronto, Canada. If you ever come to Toronto I
will come to your concert no matter how much it costs. If your concert
is $100 dollars I WILL COME. Everybody loves you and they want you to sing
and act. Everybody wants you to start singing again.
To me and alot of other people you were and still are the best singer
in the world. People of all ages love you very much. My sister is 5 years
old and she likes you too. My mom and my aunt like you very much too and

I am one of the girls who loves your voice and your movies and your
pictures. I have been to a lot of Iranian concerts. I know if you come
you will have the most successful concert that ever could be. Many, many
