Shahnameh research assistantships
Applications are invited for two-three Research Assistantships in connection
with an AHRB (British Academy)- funded research project on Firdausi's "Book
of Kings" (Shahnameh).
The project aims essentially to create a corpus of Shahnameh
manuscript illustrations and to provide a forum for art-historical, literary
and historical investigations. A first degreee in Middle Eastern Studies
would be useful; a knowledge of Persian is essential.
Ability to run and maintain computer applications with an internet connection
will be required. The successful applicants will also need to be able to
work on their own initiative and be free to travel in the UK and abroad.
The Research Assistantship Grade IA has a starting salary of #19,140
stlg. (and could be shared); Grade IB (half-time) starts at #9,570 stlg.
Appointments will be for one year, renewable, subject to a satisfactory
probationary period. The project begins on 1 October 1999 and applicants
should be available to start as soon as practical after that date.
