You may also send your name via fax # (Dialing from the United States): 011331-43989917.

Please circulate this call as widely as you can.

Iranian Students and University Faculty and Academics:

We, exiled and immigrant Iranians, are witnessing your battle for establishing freedom in our dear homeland. We sense how your day of sacrifice on July 8th, 1999, [referring to the beginning of the recent demonstrations in Iran] has now bridged your struggle with that of your parents' on that landmark day of December 7, 1953 [referring to the student movement under the Shah's regime]. Although the two struggles are separated by decades, are they united on the same path [for freedom].

We have attended to and believe in your demands for: ((freedom of press, freedom of political organizations and unions, freedom of political prisoners and other prisoners of conscience, open trial for those who ordered and carried out the political assassinations [of dissident activists and writers] in November 1998, the end to the authoritarian rule [of the Vali-Faghih], the establishment of democracy)), and finally, ((the establishment of a government by the people for the people)). We also believe that your demands will be fully realized only in a republic based on the will of people and on the principle of separation of church and state.

We are on your side, and therefore, we call for international solidarity day in support of your movement on Friday and Saturday, July 16 and 17, 1999. We will try by all our means to further echo your call for freedom to the world.
