Municipal councillor assassinated
TEHRAN, June 7 (AFP) - A member of the municipal council in a town west
of here has been abducted, tortured and killed, newspapers reported Monday.
Jahangir Rouzban, vice president of the municipal council in Ali Saiid,
near Savojboloaq west of Tehran, was kidnapped by three unknown men in
front of his house, the papers said.
His wife said his body was found later hanging in a shed.
Police revealed that he had been tortured before being killed, but gave
no indication on the motive for the murder.
The papers did not say when the kidnapping and murder took place.
Iran's February 26 municipal council elections were the first ever in
the country. A total of 200,000 councillors were elected nationwide.
