Iran says close to offshore deals with Shell

VIENNA, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said on Wednesday his country was close to agreeing oil deals with Shell.

When asked if Iran was near signing oil contracts he said ``Yes, we are very close with Shell for offshore projects.''

Asked if the fields concerned were Soroush and Nowruz Zanganeh said:``Yes.''

The minister was speaking to reporters ahead of the start of OPEC's ministerial conference.

Iran is hoping to sign agreements with western oil companies after reopening to foreign investors in 1995 with a deal struck with France's Total.
