Teach Persian literature at Berkeley
The Department of Near Eastern Studies at U.C. Berkeley announces a
position for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Persian Literature,
effective July 1, 2000. PhD in either classical, post-classical, or modern
Persian literature required.
Fluency in spoken Persian and in English, including the ability to teach
and lecture in either language, is essential. Also required are demonstrable
competence in the ancillary fields of Persian culture and history and Arabic
literature, and a proven commitment to both research and teaching.
Applicants must also be able to offer instruction and to supervise graduate
work in a wide variety of texts from different periods. Within the general
specialization in Persian literature, all methodological approaches (philological,
historical, literary-critical, etc.) qualify for consideration.
