Iran team's exhibition against Galaxy postponed
May 24, 2000, PASADENA, California (AP) - Monday's exhibition between
the Los Angeles Galaxy of U.S. Major League Soccer and the Iranian club
Persepolis was postponed because of a dispute over photographing and fingerprinting
the Iranian players.
"It is unfortunate that we had to postpone this match, because
we planned it knowing the Iranian community would like to see one of their
country's legendary clubs play on U.S. soil," Sergio Del Prado, Galaxy
vice president of business operations, said Wednesday.
"The Iranian government had issues with U.S. policies needing the
traveling party to be photographed and fingerprinted upon entering the
country. We are now waiting for a resolution to this impasse in order to
reschedule the game."
