News & views 2000 Common Ground Awards for Journalism in the Middle East Search for Common Ground and the European Centre for Common Ground request submissions for their annual competition to recognize and encourage journalism that contributes to better understanding between people in the Middle East. ********************* We are seeking articles that go beyond the daily headlines to break down myths and stereotypes, open windows of understanding, provide insight into one's own and one another's societies, and expose readers to new perspectives. Awards are being offered for articles published in Arab, Israeli, Turkish and Western publications and languages. Each article submitted for consideration will be reviewed by a distinguished international panel of judges. Articles must have been published between January 1, 1999 and June 30, 2000 in a recognized newspaper, magazine, or other periodical. Winners will receive monetary awards of $1,000 (one thousand US dollars) and will be invited to an international awards ceremony. These awards are sponsored by the J.
