Iran spy trial lawyers sacked

Ocotber 19, (Financial Times) -- Two lawyers in the team defending 10
Iranian Jews convicted in Iran of spying for Israel have been dropped from
the case, raising fears in the Jewish community about the outcome of their
appeal to Iran's Supreme Court.
Esmail Naseri, head of the five-member defence team, confirmed that
he and Karam Nejad had been dismissed by their clients. They were informed
in a letter written by five of the accused from prison in Shiraz. Members
of the Jewish community were concerned the convicted men had acted under
pressure.
The 10 men were jailed for four to 13 years, but the sentences were
reduced on appeal last month. An official said on Wednesday they had decided
to take their case to the Supreme Court.
