Guards, militia implicated in Khorramabad unrest
TEHRAN, Sept 27 (AFP) - Iran's National Security Council said Wednesday
that government troops and Islamic militia played an illegal role in the
deadly unrest which marred a pro-reform student meeting last month, the
state news agency IRNA reported.
The NSC report largely cleared the Office to Consolidate Unity (OCU)
student group of any wrongdoing in the days of violence in the western
city of Khoramabad that left one dead and dozens wounded.
It said the incidents "find their direct cause in the extremist
acts of the nation's political currents," and pointed to the illegal
actions of the Guards and volunteer Basiji militia against the OCU conference.
