US-Iran Congressional Roundtable: Narcotics Traffic
Control
American Iranian Council
(AIC) is pleased to announce its next Congressional Roundtable on Narcotics
Traffic Control Cooperation between US and Iran Project. The speaker is
Senator Arlen Specter and we plan to bring an Iranian official to join
the panel.
Tehran's success in reducing drug traffic through its territory from
Afghanistan to the West has been publicly praised by Washington. If properly
structured, collaborative efforts at narcotics control could serve as a
significant area of mutual cooperation and confidence building between
the two nations, while also addressing a serious global social problem.
The recent meeting of 6+2 in which Minister Kharrazi and Secretary Albright
participated, focused largely on this particular issue.
This meeting initiates the second of a series of roundtables on US-Iran
relations designed to facilitate an exchange of ideas between the US Congress
and the Iranian Parliament (Majlis).
Date: October 2, 2000 from 9:30-11:30 am
Location: 2128 Rayburn Office Building, Washington D.C.
