News & Views Iran voices "solidarity" with victims of US embassies bombings TEHRAN, Aug 11 (AFP) - Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi expressed "sympathy and solidarity" on Tuesday for the families of the victims of the bomb attacks on US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania last week. "We deplore these attacks and express sympathy and solidarity with the families of the victims," Kharazi said in separate messages for his Kenyan and Tanzanian counterparts. "Iran, which itself has been a victim of terrorist plots in the past two decades, deeply understands such tragedies," he said, quoted by the official Iranian news agency IRNA. Iran, a country accused by the United States of sponsoring terrorism, on Saturday condemned Friday's bombings at the US embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam. "The Islamic republic of Iran condemns any move which will lead to the killing innocent people," the foreign ministry said at the time, calling for "international cooperation to launch a multi-pronged attack against terrorism, this ominous phenomenon." The death toll in the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi has risen to 211, while 10 people died in Dar es Salaam. Links * Iran News |
