Iran refuses visas for Israeli wrestlers

NYCON Line 8-31-1998 - Iran has denied Israeli athletes the right to enter Iran in order to participate in the world championship for free-style wrestling, HA'ARETZ reported. An Iranian newspaper reported on Sunday that the athletes will not receive visas, despite calls by the World Association for Wrestling that the Iranians grant visas to all the athletes, regardless of their nationality. HA'ARETZ also reported that two Iranian wrestlers announced on Sunday that they will not compete in a Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in Sweden, in protest of the participation of Israeli athletes.
