Open letter: Alliance for Defense of Human Rights in
Iran
December 4, 1998, (Alliance for Defense of Human Rights in Iran) - Once
again, the Islamic Regime of Iran has engaged in a systematic and well
orchestrated elimination of its opponents. Over the past two weeks, 4
leading critiques of the Islamic Regime have been brutally mutilated and
murdered by the death squads of the Iranian Regime. Among them, were Mr.
Dariush Forouhar and Mrs. Parvaneh Forouhar (Eskandari), the leaders of
Iran’s Nation Party. No one has yet claimed responsibility but
all evidence is pointing to the death squads supported and funded by the
Islamic Republic’s leaders!!! This is in pursuit of systematic
elimination of opponents, both within and outside Iran; a similar pattern
of assassination carried out on Dr. Bakhtiar, the former Prime Minister
of Iran residing in France, and the murder of leading writers and journalists
in Iran.
This elderly couple who were active in the movement for democracy in
Iran since the early 1950’s, had been outspoken critiques of
the Islamic Regime since its establishment in 1979. They had been leading
a peaceful opposition to the lack of freedom and denial of Human Rights
in Iran, before and after the revolution of 1979. They were found savagely
slashed to death at their residence in Tehran on November 22, 1998.
The Islamic Regime of Iran from the early days of its establishment
has been engaged in terrorist activities, mutilating its opponents, and
waging an all-out war on the citizens of Iran, who spoke out against their
regime, writers, poets, women and men, young and old, inside and outside
Iran. In their quest to silence the people, the Islamic Regime has shut
down many national newspapers and magazines, and has imprisoned many publishers.
The Islamic Regime of Iran has expanded its assassinations and the crimes
against humanity to France, Germany, Turkey, United States, Philippines,
Saudi Arabia, India and even United Kingdom.
Unfortunately, the U.S. news media, has been silent to these atrocities
in Iran. The Alliance for Defense of Human Rights in Iran, which represents
people from all walks of life, many political and cultural institutes
and foundations in the U.S. pleads with all concerned, freedom loving
and fair-minded people in the U.S. to condemn these atrocities. You are
asked to show your dismay and opposition to such violations of Human Rights
by the Islamic Regime by expressing your views to the U.S. Congress, to
the news media, and to the United Nations, demanding an end to these barbaric
atrocities.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, through the use of systematic terror
and intimidation of opponents has lost its legitimacy to be the representative
of the Iranian people. We believe that the volatile situation in Iran
demands immediate attention by the international community. We are hereby
requesting that the United Nations send a fact-finding mission to Iran
to investigate Human Rights abuses and the political murders in Iran.
