Iran's culture ministry condemns bombing of moderate
daily
Teheran (dpa) - Iran's culture ministry Tuesday condemned a bomb attack
which damaged the premises of the moderate Teheran daily Khordad and left
two employees injured.
There was no indication who was responsible, but witnesses reported
seeing two unidentified assailants fleeing the scene on a motorcycle, the
news agency IRNA reported.
``We condemn this violent act,'' Deputy Culture Minister Ahmad Burqani
told IRNA, adding that ``the nation should now strike at the root of the
problem of violence and try to do away with it.''
Khordad, a supporter of the reform policies of President Mohammad Khatami,
is run by his Deputy for Political Developments, former interior minister
Abdullah Nuri.
The daily's editor-in-chief, Ali Hekmat, told IRNA he had received several
threatening phone calls prior to Monday's attack, but did not take them
seriously.
Radical Moslems have been targetting liberal Iranian intellectuals and
have been blamed for deaths of five dissidents in recent months. Rogue
security agents are expected to go on trial for the killings.
