Italian naval vessel to visit Iran
TEHRAN, March 15 (AFP) - An Italian frigate is to visit Iran next month
for the first visit by a western navy ship to Iranian waters since the
1979 Islamic revolution, the official news agency IRNA said Monday.
IRNA reported from Rome that the Italian vessel "Euro" will
make a "friendly visit" from April 8-12 to the southern Gulf
port of Bandar Abbas, Iran's naval base.
The announcement comes just after a historic visit by President Mohammad
Khatami to Italy last week, the first trip by an Iranian head of state
to western Europe since 1979.
