Celebrating Woman's Day in Sunnyvale
Society of Iranian Professionals
in northern California is proud to honor Women's Day on March 5th, 1999.
Come join us as we celebrate the accomplishments of all women of the world,
and in particular Iranian women.
Program Details:
- Main speaker: Dr. Pouran Eslami, Sociologist, Anthropologist, and
Archeologist University of California,Irvine. Her lecture on March 5th,1999
is entitled "Family, woman, and Shahnameh" and "Role of
Women in Ghajar dynasty". Please see below for Dr.Eslami biography.
- Ostaad Nooh will give a speech on "the role of women in Persian
literature".
- Ms. Hoori Abeedi will play light classical music on the piano.
- We will also have "Santoor" and "Daff" players,
as well as a marvelous display of arts and crafts.

Dr. Pouran Eslami biography: Dr. Pouran Eslami, was born in Iran. She
finished her education at Tehran University, and received her Bachelor
degree in sociology and anthropology, with a Masters degree in Public
Health. In 1977 she entered Roosevelt University in the City of Chicago
and received her Masters in sociology. At the University of California
Irvine, she received a Masters degree in Anthropology along with a Ph.D.
in both Sociology and Anthropology. She also received specialization
in research methodology and social statistics.
After she received her Ph.D. with Honors from UCI she continued to work
on campus, studying and researching Native American Indians, Women in
Central Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa and focused on different
ethnic groups. At UCI, she conducted various research projects along
with a group of scholars that includes Professor G. Jorgensen at UCI in
the study of Native Americans.
Mrs. Eslami is currently conducting a study on Azarbaijan and Goddesses
of ancient Persia. She is a full time Professor at Riverside Community
College, Department of Sociology and Anthropology. However, she continues
to maintain her ties with the UCI campus and its faculty. Her research
and lecture on March 5th, 1999 I entitled "Family, Woman, and Shahnameh."
