Gina B. Nahai, author of "Cry of the Peacock" (Crown) is going on tour to promote her new novel, "MOONLIGHT ON THE AVENUE OF FAITH". Please note tour dates at the bottom of this message. Read excerpts from this book featured in The Iranain.
One of the most remarkable first novels of 1991 was Gina B. Nahai's "Cry of the Peacock" which the Washington Post hailed as "an important novel which sheds light on an enigmatic part of the world with which Westerners must reckon. Los Angeles Times called the book "a spellbinding tale that is hard to put down", while Newsday described it as "Marvelous...a remarkable contemporary Iranian novel the likes of which we have not seen in decades."
Nahai's second novel, MOONLIGHT ON THE AVENUE OF FAITH, follows the story of a young Iranian girl growing up first in Iran, then in Los Angeles. It is being translated into six foreign languages, and has been selected by Barnes&Noble and Borders Books for their "Discover" and "Original Voices" series.
"Iranian author Nahai's richly embroidered, mythopoetic new novel is a tale worthy of Scheherezade. Miriam the Moon weaves for her niece Lili the spellbinding story of how Lili's mother, Roxanna the Angel, in the grip of a destiny she could not control, abandoned her five-year-old daughter without explanation and vanished into the night... Mavelously compelling." - Publishers Weekly
"A heady, sprawling tale of women, family and country by the Iranian born author of "Cry of the Peacock"....this novel is mesmerizing. Highly recommended." - Library Journal
Gina B. Nahai was born in Iran and educated in Switzerland and the United States. She holds a Masters in International Relations from UCLA, and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from USC.
She has taught writing at USC, and has studied the politics of Iran for the United States Department of Defense. She is a frequent lecturer on women's issues and the politics of the Middle East.
