Featured speaker: Dr. Yahya R. Kamalipour, professor of Mass and International
Communications and director of graduate studies at the Department of Communication
and Creative Arts, Purdue University Calumet.
Dr. Kamalipour has published several books on mass media representation
of the Middle East, Iran, and ethnic minorities; has been interviewed by
the mass media in the U.S. and abroad; has written numerous articles; and
has given speeches at national and international gatherings. He has received
several signicant awards, including the 1996 Distinguished Book Award from
the National Communication Association.
IIC is a not-for-profit, independent
network of concerned global citizens who strive to facilitate friendship
between Iran and other nations. IIC has no affiliation with any government
entity or political organization.
The conference will be on March 6th at 7:00 P.M. It will be held at
the: John Hopkins's University, School of SEIS, Kennedy Auditorium 1740
Massachusetts Ave, Washington DC There will be a reception from 7:00-8:00
p.m., prior to the speech.

Gallery Ovissi is proud to feature the works of contemporary artists,
Saghar Barzmehri (manipulated photography), Maryam Javaheri (works on paper)
and Bay Area artists Taraneh Hemami (works on paper) and Hadi Tabatabai
(carvings on paper, wood and slate). A unique collection of contemporary
works of art that speak to the aesthetic eye as well as the culturally
aware mind. These artists share one common thread, their Iranian heritage,
but each collection of works speaks a different story.
Gallery Ovissi is also presenting a Gallery Talk on Sunday, March 14,
1999 at 2:30 p.m., where some of the artists and Gallery Owner, Maryam
Ovissi, will speak about the works on exhibit.
Opening date is Saturday, February 20, 1999. We invite you to attend

Dariush Mehrjui His film have been banned by both the Shah, and the
Islamic Republic, but film critics in Iran recently voted directory Dariush
Mehrjui on eof the country's greatest filmmakers. This retrospective is
organized by the Film Society of Lincoln Center, and is presented in corporation
with Farabi Cinema Foundation, Tehran. All films are in Persian with English
Subtitles.
