Karim Emami writes from Tehran: Bizhan Jalali,
the prominent poet, passed away last Friday. He was 73, and he is survived
only by his poetry, which was published over a 36-year span in five volumes.
His poems are mostly stark and unadorned Haiku type pieces that have been
described as "philosophical and introspective". Another name
to add to the list of the departed old-generation Iraninan literati is
that of Mahmud E`temadzadeh a.k.a. "Beh-Azin", well-known writer
and translator, who had been the literary star of Iran's Tudeh Party.
