Chinese vice president arrives in Iran
TEHRAN, Jan 5 (AFP) - Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao arived in Iran
Friday on the first stage of a five-country tour that will also take him
to Syria, Jordan, Cyprus and Uganda, state television reported. Greeted
at Tehran airport by his Iranian counterpart Hassan Habibi and other officials,

Saudi Arabia says Iran boycott reports baseless
DUBAI, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia has dismissed newspaper reports
quoting an unnamed Saudi official as saying Gulf Arab states might boycott
Iran over its territorial dispute with the United Arab Emirates. A Saudi
Foreign Ministry statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency late
on Wednesday said the reports carried by the UAE's Gulf News and al-Ittihad
dailies on Tuesday were "baseless and categorically untrue."

Kuwait denies diplomat held in Iran New Year raids
KUWAIT, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Kuwait has denied that one of its diplomats
in Tehran was among more than 250 people arrested in a crackdown on New

Khamenei calls on students to be tolerant
TEHRAN, Jan 3 (AFP) - Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on
different student groups Tuesday "to tolerate each other and avoid
tensions" in the universities, television announced. Khamenei who
met representatives of the Islamic Association of Universities, the Office
to Consolidate Unity (OCU), and other student movements in Tehran, urged
the students "to contribute to achieving religious democracy"

Iran says security pact with Saudi ready to be signed
TEHRAN, Jan 2 (AFP) - Iran and Saudi Arabia have ironed out the details
for an historic security agreement as the two nations work toward moving
on from their past difficulties, Tehran's interior minister, Abdol-Vahed
Mussavi-Lari, said Tuesday. "The text of the agreement has been finalised
