Tehran rejects US "interference" in domestic affairs
TEHRAN, Jan 19 (AFP) - Iran rejects American interference in its domestic
affairs, including human rights issues, and asks the new US administration
to drop such practises, the official IRNA agency quoted Foreign Ministry
spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi as saying Friday. "In Iran, the judiciary
is totally independent, and the words of some US officials who are interfering

Italian president, other top officials to visit Iran
TEHRAN, Jan 19 (AFP) - Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, Prime
Minister Giuliano Amato and Industry Minister Enrico Letta are expected

Jordan's King Abdullah expected to visit Iran soon
AMMAN, Jan 18 (AFP) - Jordan's King Abdullah II is expected to visit
Iran soon and discussions are underway between the two countries to set
a date, a royal court official said on Thursday. "His majesty will
be going to Tehran at the invitation of President Mohammad Khatami but
we are still discussing the exact date of this visit", which could

Iran regrets Persian Gulf defence pact

Iran ready to talk with UAE on Persian Gulf islands row
DUBAI, Jan 18 (AFP) - Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi said Thursday he
was ready to "talk" with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) about
one of three Persian Gulf islands controlled by Tehran but claimed by Abu
Dhabi. "We consider these islands Iranian territory, but there is
a 1971 agreement between Iran and the emirate of Sharjah allowing talks
on Abu Mussa island, and we are ready to start discussions with the UAE

Moroccan PM says politics at heart of historic Iran visit
