* "Philosophy of Fasting"
Dr. Haghi, who is an internationally recognized authority on the teachings
of Rumi, the thirteenth century Sufi mystic famed for his ecstatic poetry
and resonating truths, will have a lecture on the "Philosophy of Fasting"
in Farsi on this Saturday, Dec 26th, 1998. This lecture will be held at
the Sunnyvale Community Center in northern California located at 550 E.
Remmington Drive; and will begin at 7:00 p.m. For further information,

Dr. Haghi obtained his Ph.D. in History of Science from Harvard University
and his M.D. from Shiraz University, Iran. This program is presented by
Bonyad-e-Towhid in a series of cultural enrichment events for the Iranian
community in the Bay Area; and has free admission.

The Center for Persian Gulf and Middle East Studies at the Institute
for Political and International Studies (IPIS) intends to convene its ninth
International conference on the Persian Gulf under the title "Persian
Gulf: Present Realities and Future Perspectives " on February 22-23,
1999.
Distinguished scholars, university professors, researches, and specialists
will discuss political, international, economic, security as well as cultural,
