Revolution: 1979-1999
Masoud Rajavi, leader of the Mojahedin Khalq Organization, was a candidate in Iran's first presidential elections in 1980, which was won by Abolhassan Banisadr. He was disqualified on grounds that he had opposed the new constitution. This photo of Rajavi's smeared presidential campaign sign was taken in Tehran in the summer of 1980. Photo by J.
