Iran believes statues being stolen for religious reasons
RELIGIOUS motives appear to be behind the theft of 11 bronze statues of Iranian national heroes from the capital's public parks, a Tehran official has said.
In a string of thefts that started in late March, unknown culprits have used heavy equipment to rip the statues from their pedestals and then carted them off. The thievery has prompted city officials to postpone erecting new statues.
Tehran city council official Morteza Talaei said the thieves appear to be from a "specific group" and are acting out of religious convictions. "It appears that currents and groups that see these statues as contrary to their religious and cultural beliefs are involved," Mr Talaei was quoted as saying.
The statues all depict prominent Iranians, which could contradict a strict interpretation of Islam that bans the depiction of human form in art.

Just A Thought
by Demo on Thu May 06, 2010 06:18 PM PDT“Statues”, “Pictures”, “Icons”, “Drawings”, “Paintings”. “Symbols” are all but “Images” of “idols.” or “Sanams” in Farsi If any religious belief condemns “idol worshipping’ it can not differentiate among them. Statues & pictures are both the same for instance. Such requires the group to immediately get busy removing/stealing all the pictures/images of Khomeini and Khamenie from every square & from the above people’s heads everywhere!!!

Brilliant
by Cost-of-Progress on Thu May 06, 2010 10:02 AM PDTThe stealing of statues by the regime thugs is appalling, but no one would dare speak out nor anyone would care as it is more important to promote the religion of peace and push for that never reaching Islamic Eutopia. Meanwhile, Iran, her resources, her people and her national identity is eroding away.

by Mehrban on Thu May 06, 2010 09:46 AM PDTFirst it was in the name of the poor. (a Sham)
Then it was the war with Iraq. (Disaster)
Then it was the promise of Khatami and Reform. (Didn't pan out)
Then it was the promise of Ahamdi Nejad and cleaning of corruption. (Never happened)
Now they have to steal statues :-). Will see about this one (jury is still not out or is it?)
Bravo

Desperate Acts ...

Such acts just escalate and increase the hatred and disgust of the freedom-loving Iranian people towards these backward agents of this Arab-rooted culture!
The culprits show their imbecile character by such moronic actions - All these Islamists are doing is digging themselves a deeper grave!
The day of reckoning will indeed come .. It always does!
