Dear Disenchanted

by divaneh on

I think you need to read my comment again. I stressed that it was a personal matter and no one's business. She however intentionally or otherwise, has shown her defiance of the rules of a society who has made her a slave because of her body. Just like a beautiful bird that is prisoned in a cage for its beauty.

People become role model without intending to be one. A footballer who becomes a role model for boys think of nothing but playing football. Actors, scientists, and all those who become role models do not wake up every morning thinking I want to be a role model. Being an Iranian girl her action has more reverberation in Iranian young girls, and that is something to celebrate as it teaches them that they are the owners of their own bodies.

I think we have very different views about sex and nudity and that is why you do not like the taste of my comment. As I said, the biggest thing that she has done, intentionally or not (she has not made any statement) is to trivialize this trivial matter that has been turned to a giant taboo in our society. What is a big deal about a woman's body? How sexy do you find the nude body of a sad woman? On the other hand sex is also a completely personal matter. If two people want to engage in sex, it is only their business and no one else. If a woman or a man wants to dress sexy it is their personal business. Why are you trying to impose your values on others? Is it because you think that they have less wisdom than you? We have to accept everyone for who he or she is and allow freedom of expressions.

Divaneh jan, certainly not a good post after return!

by Disenchanted on

You said: "I am sure as a role model for many Iranian girls you have played an important role."

So lets see, had she been dropping her panties it would have been really, really, really defiance of the "forced slavery" and a "role model" for school girls in Iran!! :-)

And did you and others wonder why did she stop at one nipple, and didn't lead the liberation all the way?! :-)

In case you missed my post, here it is. Welcome back!

Again, VPK & Vildemose & rest would come back nagging & bugging, "she did it for herself. It is art, it's personal choice, freedom & has nothing to do with liberation or role model, it is west get used to it & blah , blah , blah".

Fellas, i am talking to like of Divaneh when I say, what I say. Capish?

Well Done Golshifteh

by divaneh on

It is your personal life and you do as you wish and it is no one's business. However with what you have done you have trivialized one issue that the backward Islamists and their cronies have turned to such a big matter. There is nothing big about a woman body. Sex is in the facial impressions. How would they know though, those nadid badids never look at the face.

It shows the defiance of Iranian women to the forced slavery that has been imposed on their souls and bodies for centuries. I am sure as a role model for many Iranian girls you have played an important role.

If sister Golshifteh was married

by salman farsi on

Do you think her husband would have allowed her to bear her brest in front of million of men? I doubt it.  Unless he was a "be-gheyrat". Listenn to Islam and seek the path of salvation through marriage:

As the Holy Prophet (SAW) states:

"O youths, whosoever among you can marry, he should do so because marriage protects your eyes (from indulging in sin by looking lustfully at others in privacy."

(Makaarimul Akhlaq).

Imam Sadiq (AS) narrates that one day the Holy Prophet (SAW) went on the pulpit and said,

"O people, Jibraeel has brought unto me a divine command stating that girls are like fruits from a tree. If they are not plucked in time then they get rotten by the rays of the sun and a slight blow of the wind will result in their falling down from the tree. Similarly, when girls attain maturity, then like other women they develop emotions related to sex and there is no cure for it except her husband. If they are not married, prevention of character corruption becomes a remote possibility because after all they are human beings and no human is free from vice."

(Furoo-e-Kafi, Vol 5, Pg 337).

i have a question for dr.mohandes

by gitdoun ver.2.0 on

you mentioned " You or anyone else for that matter are in no position to set or even begin to think about establishing moral compass for anyone in where you live or the rest of the world. Neither you nor even those who happen to be in a higher positions than you are. "

so like when the cops arrest a female in Boston or Philadelphia (birthplaces of american democracy) for going topless in public are they inadvertently setting a moral compass for society ??? or what about the cops arresting a public drunkard at Beverly Hills who isn't a threat to anyone but is singing a song way out tune at 8pm ?? btw, this isn't directed to golshifteh's stunt on a magazine. it's more targeted question that people should not establish a moral compass for anyone else in democratic society. but i don't think that is realistic. i think civil compass or legal compass to a measure have root in some form of morality. and i think your statement has no validation in the real world. maybe your statement can hold water in a utopian world but certainly Not in the Real World.

Jeez Louise, I was being sarcastic! I was just trying to say that just because I am against nudity, it doesn't mean I'm against freedom (as the pro-nudity supporters keep accusing me of!).  This is my point-why am I not allowed to disagree with what this lady has done (or indeed anyone who takes their clothes off), but not be a democrat? Not want freedom for the women in Iran who are forced to wear the veil? Why does everything have to be either/or?  Those people themselves on IC (they know who they are) who claim to be 'roshan-fekr' really appear to be the most narrow-minded.

With regards to jealousy-Ms Farahani is a beautiful, extremely talented lady so there is much to be jealous of! But I was (and I'm going to use that word again) disappointed that she did what she did.  Again, I reiterate, of course it's her choice and her body and she undoubtedly cares not a jot what I think, but as she posed in a public magazine in a PUBLIC forum, then naturally that will invite public comments from myself and others.  I don't understand why others have SUCH a huge problem of understanding the fact that not everyone agrees with nudity.  It doesnt't make them a fundamentalist though!!

 Peace and love.

P.S Your avatar made me smile!

WHat a short-sighted and shallow assertion right in the middle of a comment that was on its way to being a real informative one!!

So who has said that in a democracy .. oh sorry... If you love freedom and democracy you "MUST" drop things off ?

Do you even know what loving freedom and democracy means? And then you complain about others calling people like you or Mr. Disenchanted a basiji? I guess you are displaying basiji trademarks without you even knowing it or realizing it. BTW< I AM NOT REALLY CALLING YOU ONE. Just in case you decided to High five Others and say "See. WHat did i tell you"!!

Dude or dudett jan. The essence of freedom and definition of it is entertwined with the premise that an individual has total control over his or her actions , so long as it is not a cause for social disturbance. GF decided to go Full monty! very well, BUt did she do it right in front of your house, or your Work or your child's school? No. she did it in the privacy of her own professional life. What good is freedom when you have to wait for permission and would feel the need to go around gathering signatures making sure everyone agrees with what you are about to do???? Does it even make sense to you!!?

You or anyone else for that matter are in no position to set or even begin to think about establishing moral compass for anyone in where you live or the rest of the world. Neither you nor even those who happen to be in a higher positions than you are.

I am not sure and please forgive me if i am way outta place here, but this recurrent theme of "GF must have gotten paid well... she did that for money and status" observed in your commenst, seems to suggest a sliver of envy towards her? are you jealous???!

But I am puzzled why you want to be in this "indecent" society.

I only drink OJ in the morning. About the insightful observation you made! It is your opinion and I have no idea whether it is true or not. You just made an assertion with no other basis. By the way what is "decency of society".

Dude she is in France; so which society are you worried about? If it is Iran people got much bigger problems than her. People are unable to feed their families in Iran. This is nothing to a person worried about basics. If it is France they got bigger breasts than hers.

A society is decent when it treats people well. One that has proper health care and jobs. It is not about breasts and how much is covered. The sad part is Islam has so twisted people as to make them think decency is achieved by putting on a tent.

Vildemose

'The women are not considered as human being but a piece of Vagina'

Do think by getting naked, women are seen less like vaginas?  In England, there are many 'glamour girls' (women who take their clothes off) who once famous for bearing their breasts, try to change career-go into acting, presenting etc.  But they are never taken seriously as people just see them as breasts! Before I'm jumped on, I know that GF's picture was not a glamour shot-I'm just addressing the issue of nudity per se.  Note, because I do not agree with nudity, it DOESN'T mean I agree with forcing the veil on people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I just don't agree with nudity!)

expat

Amusing..

by expat on

Really amusing!

I see you've been dragged over to to the dark side too Disenchanted!

'The alternative to what is practiced in Iran is not nudity! That is what mullas want us to believe. There is a third alternative that respects freedom of women and protects the decency of the society as well!'

Agree, agree, agree, agree, agree!.  But you realise that you will accused of being a basiji now!  Because the world is black or white according to some-if you love 'freedom' and 'democracy', you must drop your clothes anytime you want to regardless of social etiquette or suitability of subject. If you have some degree of a moral compass, then you MUST be propping up the regime in Iran and agree with shrouding a woman in black. There is no inbetween!  You CANNOT be anything else! :) :)

Makes me think of how the abused become the abusers!!!

Gitdoun-I agree 100% with your post.  That's basically the context of most of my posts (although I also suspect she was paid well for the shot)..
