The most fun part of the city, beside its beautiful historical section, is the Sahel (beachfront) promenade. It is about five kilometers long and lies next to the beloved Caspian Sea.

A Soviet era building, the Heydar Aliev Foundation. Aliev was the communist party boss who led Azarbaijan SSR to independence in 1991. His son, Ilham, is now the president and his wife, Mehraban, runs the foundation.
