I was at my cousin Nersi's house last night. His wife Bella had found some cartoons her mother had kept from their days in the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) in Abadan around 1956. Oil company staff from various divisions had created cartoons related to their work. Note that the turbaned characters are identical to those in Ali Baba and Sinbad movies made in Hollywood at the time. Enjoy.

As a son of an ex sherkat nafti I enjoyed these cartoons.
It is great that amongst many things iranian.com serves as a virtual Iranian folk museum.
If you ever had the space and the means and wanted to start a real Iranian folk museum I will be happy to send you my own collection of memorabilia.

Or perhaps I think so because I was born there...although my parents were from far away places and not from Abadan, my family was part of Sherkat Naft.
We used to come to Tehran in the summer time, it was different and far bigger, and although I loved Tehran too and seeing all my beloved extended family but it was No ABADAN!
Abadan was my schoolyard that I loved so much... always full of friends!

Abadan the Paris of Iran!
by ali reza (not verified) on Thu Aug 07, 2008 06:28 PM PDTI remmember during the Shah people used to call Abadan and Khoram Shahr the Paris of Iran.Going to Abadan and Khoram shahr was like going to USA or Europe.Anyway the last time that I visited Abadan and Khoramshahr was many years ago and it was not like what it used to be.The war just ended.The city was like a ghost town.There were not too many people living there and there was only one street and one traffic circle .There was destruction everywhere.A c units hanging from the windows of the houses. There were bullet holes in the walls and in the walls of the proud of khouzestanis,Sherkat naft. There were sinking ships in the water.There was not shipping because of the mines in the water.That was then and this is now.We used to export oil products to other countries.Now we have to import everything from other countries.
