2020 Olympics in Iran?

Last past week, as we witnessed Brazil being awarded the Olympics for 2016, I could not help but wonder if there was even the remotest possibility of Iran or perhaps Tehran being awarded the Olympics for 2020. I know it’s a distant possibility - a silly dream. But could it be that Iran, or more specifically Iranians can put right, what is so badly wrong with Iran within four years? Having been in Brazil in the mid 70’s, I have watched how Brazil has transformed itself from decades of dictatorship and backwardness to a modern, secular, democratic and vibrant nation we can all be proud of as a positive contributor to the international community>>>

چو عضوی به درد آورد روزگار...

نزدیک به یک سال از دستگیری حسین درخشان میگذرد. ابتدای دستگیری اش در وبلاگشهر گرد و خاک زیادی به پا شد . بعضی او را خائن به ملت و بعضی او را پدر ملت و بعضی او را ناجی افسانه ای خواندند. من در دسامبر سال گذشته این مطلب را در مورد درخشان نوشتم. و امروز هم همان احساس را در مورد درخشان دارم. حسین درخشان نه انسان خوبی بود ، و نه دوست خوبی برای انسانهایی که به او اعتماد کردند. ولی حسین درخشان یک انسان است. و یک انسان حتی اگر بد کند و بدی کند و حتی اگر مثل حسین درخشان باشد ، باید از حقوق انسانی اش دفاع کرد. >>>

This land is my land

The American who first sang, “This land is my land,” had a sticker on his guitar that said, “This machine kills fascists.” The great Woody Guthrie is lovingly remembered for singing what was in the heart of the people during a crisis of injustice in his country. Last week I traveled five hundred miles to hear an Iranian musician sing out Iran’s recent anguish in a new song parallel in name and spirit to Guthrie’s historic “This land is my land.” Hamed Nikpay’s setar has no anti-fascist sticker on it, but his green wristband says the same thing as he sings, “I am the owner of this land.”>>>

The Boy of Color

The boy of color rises in the world. He is sleepy, but there is something burning in him right away. There was sleep, and there were dreams, but something from the world he saw yesterday survives past those and tells him to be ready as soon as he awakes. It did not slow down at night, amidst the silence and amidst the darkness, and he did not expect it to. It was the same world after all. It was only night, and he had given up on fearing it and he had given up on believing that it would change anything too>>>

قلب مهربان آقای غول

از میان بازوهای دریا که خلیج کوچکی در خشکی برای خود ساخته بود گذشتم.صخره های آویزان، پرده های آسمان را می سابیدند.چکه های پودر شده به روی زمین پاشیده می شدند. درختان سرو، هوای مابین قله های برفی و جنگل های سبز را معطر کرده بودند. ریه ام را از این بوی خوش پر کردم تا برای بقیه ی راه عطر، کم نیاورم.قایق باد بانی خودم را به اسکله ی چوبی با گره های کلفت بستم. دریا می رفت که برای ساعت های آتی آشفته شود.محل بستن قایق، جای امنی بود. نگرانی را از خودم دور کردم>>>

پنج سبز

هاشور خورده گونه هام، از خراش،
از خط چشم وُ ریمل، در اشک ِ گاز،
پرتاب می کنم هرچه سنگ وُ آجر
بر سر ِ حرّامی ی اسلحه پوش.
