The post-election demonstrations in Iran took everyone by surprise. Their scope and intensity upset all geopolitical pre-conceptions and calculations. Prior to 22nd of Khordad, the world seemed content to view Iran within the Fundamentalist Iran versus anti-colonialist Iran matrix. Neither views took the living breathing people of Iran into account. So when the demonstrations erupted, both camps scrambled to put their own spin on the events. The so-called anti-colonialist Left in the West dismissed it as yet another “colour revolution” such as the ones in Ukraine and Lebanon, most likely inspired and perhaps even organized by the Western powers; the liberal Western media saw in the mass demonstrations a desire on the part of Iranian people to open up to the West and its values>>>

In the aftermath of the electoral coup in Iran, the push forward by the people to force the state authorities to submit to some accountability, openly questioning the legitimacy of the state in the process, has caused a great deal of fear in both ruling factions. But, more critically, in order to consolidate the coup, the Khamenei-Ahmadinejad faction has to move carefully, so as not to inflame more intense hatred and discord among the ruling factions themselves. Hence, the insistence of the coup leaders to put the biggest blames on 'foreign arrogant powers', especially the British. And ergo the editorial in Iran's daily Kayhan, by Hossein Shariatmadari, declaring Mousavi a foreign agent>>>

من میخواهم در اینجا به دو استدلال ریاضی و آماری بپردازم. نه به دلیل مهر به یكی از نامزدها چون همه شان را سر و ته یك كرباس میدانم و اینكه یكی بیش از دیگری طرفدار داشته باشد در عقیده ام تغییری نمیدهد. قصدم حتماً نفی تقلب هم نیست چون بارها در باب تقلبهای چندگانه ای كه حكومت در انتخابات انجام میدهد نوشته ام. انگیزهٌ اصلی من اعتبار زیاد و بسا اوقات بیجایی است كه برخی برای استدلال هایی از این دست قائل میگردند، بی توجه به برد محدود و اساس گاه سست آنها. گویی اصل بر این است كه هر جا رقم در كار بود بحث «دو دو تا چهار تا» است و دیگر ایرادی نمیتوان به كار گرفت. در صورتیكه اینطور نیست، نباید به این راحتی با دیدن چهارتا رقم مجاب شد. استدلال چه با رقم بیان شود و چه با كلمه باید در برابر نقد تاب بیاورد.>>>

تیمسار بعد از سالها فیلش یاد هندوستان افتاد. با علاقه اخبار مربوط به ایران را دنبال میکرد. از وقتی 2 سال مانده به پیروزی انقلاب به آمریکا آمد، اصلاً به اخبار سیاسی ایران و جهان علاقه ای نداشت. رویدادهای ورزشی به خصوص گلف را از نزدیک دنبال میکرد. با وجود آنکه از نسل اول ایرانیهایی بود که به آمریکا آمده بودند با اینحال چنان با محیط به اصطلاح خود را اداپته کرده بود که کسی فکر نمیکرد، وی ژنرال بازنشسته ایرانی است. قیافه اش مثل مربیان قدیمی ورزشی فعال در غرب آمریکا بود. مردی که کمتر حرف زده و بیشتر عمل میکرد. آنهایی که سعی داشتند ادعا های خود را در پایان فصل ثابت کنند تا اینکه رجز های بی خودی بخوانند. هیچکس نفهیمد که دقیقاًٌ از چه تاریخی به تماشای اخبار ایران علاقمند شد ولی از وقتی مناظره بین نامزدهای انتخابات ریاست جمهوری شروع شد، تیمسار به دنبال شناسنامه و پاسپورتش می گشت تا رای دهد>>>
