Iran is the Reason the UN Arms Trade Treaty was even Established

The Ayatollah Khomeini is giggling in his grave at the news that the Islamic Republic has been elected to the UN’s Arms Trade Treaty post. Even post-mortum, his sinister goals of undermining and destabilizing the international community, continue to come true. I try my best to avoid debate for or against the UN, but in moments of absurdity, my voice mustn’t falter. Undoubtedly, this is one of those very moments. Iran today is the epicenter of weapons-smuggling.

Does NIAC help or hurt Discrimination?

Outrage over Apple’s discrimination towards an Sahar Sabet, an Iranian customer in Atlanta, Georgia is rightfully wrenching hearts everywhere, but my heart stopped bleeding when within seconds, both NIAC (National Iranian-American Council) and CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) stamped their names as the leaders of the opposition.

3 Years, But Moscow and Rio go on...

I’m not usually a fan of the word Martyr, but without a doubt, it is one of the many ways to describe Neda.

I don’t like the term because it has lost its meaning, water-down by overuse and ‘hijacked’ for lack of a better word, by Islamists and Salafists.

But Neda takes back the meaning, and re-establishes the respect it is meant to portray.

Iran dont belong in Rio

When someone says “Rio De Janeiro,” a sane person immediately thinks of dance, debauchery, and delight; all-night parties, lust in the air, and hedonism at its best. This year, Rio will also play host to the “Rio +20” Summit on 20-22 June 2012, the UN’s Conference on Sustainable Development. Considering Brazil’s top emerging economy, and its new-found scientific and innovative prowess, this sounds just about right.

Golshifteh still paving the way for Women

What do Golshifteh Farahani’s bare-breasted photos, and this year best Foreign Film “A Separation” have in common?

They both prove that, believe it or not, society is moving in the right direction.

Granted this world of over 6 billion souls will never be anything near perfect, there is something to be said on this International Women’s Day.

Today, communities around the world will celebrate women and their achievements, and will hopefully set stones for further advancements.

Mehdi Khazali vs. The Nukes

The score is officially Nukes : 1, Freedoms : 0.

When it comes to Iran, there is no shortage of political prisoners.

You hardly need to search before you come across yet another heart-breaking story about a mother, a brother or a friend harassed, tortured or kidnapped by the Iranian Regime’s Revolutionary Guard.

These truths have become so common, that perhaps many have become numb and de-sensitized.

And for this reason, it’s crucial that we take a minute of our day to think about Mehdi Khazali.

D'oh! "The Ayatollaaaaaaaaaaaahs" -Sung at high pitch

Last week, Iran imposed a sanction of its own, banning any and all things related to “The Simpsons,” an American cartoon series currently in its 23rd season. A far cry from rational, this action is simply one of many pointless and delusional measures taken by the Islamic Regime. The absurdity of the situation goes well beyond the issue of censorship, and civil liberties - this also raises another question. As inflation and poverty skyrocket, why is the Iranian Regime wasting such limited time and money on this?

Happy New Year, Iran

Is Iran suicidal, or is it savvy and capable of fooling the world? If the events of 2011 are any indication of what might transpire in the New Year, I would plead that the former is more characteristic of the Regime.

Stripping Iran's Dignity

So we’re getting an A-bomb…

This week’s IAEA report on Iran’s nuclear program painted a grave but vivid scene. With pages upon pages on highly verified evidence, the Islamic Regime’s pursuit of nuclear military capability was essentially displayed as a validation to the mounting fears in the last decade. There is no doubt that Iran is shooting for the nuclear bomb, no pun intended.

Why are we Still Eating Khomeini's Myth?

This week, Western media has been saturated with a variety of news pieces focused on one topic – the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear program. Pitting the two sides against each other by reporting that the West fears a nuclear attack, while Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful, these news agencies offer audiences sensational, but empty stories – political gossip, if you will. But what truths lie beyond the headlines?

The late President Kennedy said, “Belief in the myths allows the comfort of opinions, without the discomfort of thoughts.”

As Iranian-Americans we are no stranger to tough love. Whether from our parent’s pressure in school or the family business, in adapting to the US and new immigrants or other, we have learned that if often pays off.

Sure its difficult, and those of us who have had to deal some toughness to a loved one know it’s easier to coddle than to push. But when the need arises, we know it must be done.
