In my opinion this is one of the best news of the week. Ambassador John Limbert was a guest of PSU's Iranian Studies advisory board and keynote speaker of the inauguration of Iranian studies at PSU few years ago. He speaks Persian fluently, is married to a Persian and his book on Shiraz at Hafez time is one of the best written about that period. I doubt if there would have been any better choice than John to take that torch at this time.

I'm always in search of good vanilla because I love to bake and I like to use really good strong vanilla. Sooooo, I did some searching on the internet about a year ago and I have been making my own pure vanilla since--which is perfect. Here is how I do it:

ABSOLUT VANILLA EXTRACT

1 bottle of Absolut Vodka
1/2 C of dark rum
12 vanilla beans

Cut the vanilla beans the long way with a knife except the last inch.

The Islamic Republic is taking a wrong path. They are becoming more centralized in power, which is good news for the revolutionary minded people and bad news for the reformists. For a few months now I am holding a theory that Iran is headed towards a absolute dictatorial state with no hope of turning back. To do so they have alienated some of the population to a point that for the first time in Islamic Republic history, demonstrations will not be an easy task for the system to control. And as many are aware, demonstrations happen regularly in Iran.
