Unfortunately, unlike the Americans who enjoy SNL and late night TV shows, who even have presidents like Clinton, G. Bush II, Obama, making fun of themselves or their staff, Iranians still lack the capacity to take a joke and distinguish that from taking it as a personal attack. I am rather surprised to see this among the younger Iranian generation who grew up outside of Iran. There is always hope to learn from the host country, but it is still too soon for us, after 20-30+ years abroad.

FREE SPEECH

by Taj (not verified) on

People in Iran are fighting for freedom of speech and expression, which is the exact thing you are opposing here. Really, is this T-shirt our biggest problem right now. I think we need to re-focus as to what our time should be spent on. Peace ya'll.

If one doesn't like the "Islamic Gvnmt of Iran" does that mean they don't like all Muslims? (if this shirt says they don't like one Shiite, you are interp. it to mean they are offending the entire Shiite community).
Right?

Get a life. And grow up while you are at it.

If you read the shirt, it says, "THIS" Shiite, not "ALL" Shiite! So calm down with your generalization that it was to disrespect all Iranians/ and their faith/ and whatever. Get a life! I like how you can run with it though... Connecting one shirt to disrepecting and making a religious statement... WOW! Good for you!
And for you to "Slap" someone to teach them a lesson- what does that say about your upbringing....In AMERICA the EDUCATED people discuss their idea's, even if they disagree, but I guess where you come from, its the slapping around that wins! That ALL makes sense.
So thank you.

FU!

To whomever is wearing this shirt:

You are an absolute disgrace!
To equivocate the word "Shi'ite" with the word "shit" is very low-class of you!
I dont think this is a common stock shirt sold at every corner souvenier store which means you probably thought this up and printed it and presumed it would be a very clever and cute pun. This only proves that you are a moron and should keep your pointless opinions at home.
The fact is that millions of your countrymen and women live their lives by way of this faith and your childish play on words is not only counter-productive to the cause you supposedly support, but also immeasurably insults countless others.
This is the kind of BS language I remember hearing from right-wing zealots on FOX NEWS a few years ago and I wanted to throw something at the TV then! I swear if I had seen you in LA wearing that shirt I would have slapped you to teach you some respect!
Your shirt expresses neither ideas worth debating nor opinions worth sharing. Do us all a favor and burn that shirt before you embarass us any further.

Very Disrespectful and in Very Poor Taste

by Chip (not verified) on

I'm no fan of the bafoonish Ahmadinejad, but the pun "SHIITE" here just goes way too far. Implicitly or explicitly insulting the religion of most of our countrymen with such a derogatory term is totally uncalled for. What's just as worse, it's a very polarizing t-shirt. It seperates those that at least care about their Shiite religion and those that do not. Let's keep in mind that there are many moderately religious people who are fed up with Ahmadinejad. Insulting their religion can push them right back into his arms. And I know that it's just one stupid t-shirt, but this type of mindset is not beneficial to the Persian community.
