درد نادر... درد من

بالاخره امروز این فرصت دست داد تا فیلم تحسین شده ی "جدایی نادر از سیمین" را ببینم. می دانم دیگر تب این فیلم خوابیده و نوشتن نقدی بر آن کاری است کلیشه ای آن هم از دید یک تماشاگر سینما دوست نه منتقد سینمایی! امروز می خواهم بنویسم چون درد تمام وجودم را فراگرفته و حس می کنم هجوم بغض گیر کرده در گلویم و باقیمانده ی اشک هایی که نریختم طوری در وجودم تلنبار شده که هر لحظه احساس خفگی می کنم! >>>

فریاد ندانم که کی آمد کی شد

این روزها هربار به واشنگتن می‌رفتم به او سری می‌زدم. برای من که سالیان متمادی‌ در بسیاری از فعالیت‌های سیاسی و اجتماعی خارج از کشور او را از نزدیک می‌شناختم و با او همکاری داشتم این گفتگو این بار معنی دیگر داشت. مهرداد مشایخی ، جامعه شناس و استاد دانشگاه جورج تاون بیشتر روی تخت خوابیده بود اما از هیچ لحظه زندگی فروگذار نکرد که آن را سرشار و مفید زندگی کرد>>>

سیاه مثل اعماق ونکوور خودم

آبژکت کردن گاهی بدنها را ترسناک می کند. مگر تجربه نکرده ای که بدنت چطور بین بعضی ها به خصوص مردان سفید انگلوساکسن ونکووری ترسناک شده؟ بدن یک زن خاور میانه ای ابژکت ترست است. ترسی بزرگ. ترس اینکه این بدن نصف شبها از خواب بیدار شود و نماز بخواند. ترس اینکه چند بار در روز رو به کعبه دولا راست شود>>>

A few days ago a fellow blogger have published an article on this site analysing and questioning Iranian people’s attitude, culture and even the legitimacy of their historical claim (perfectly within his democratic rights). I tried very briefly in the comments for that article to provide a few answers and point our friend to the flaws in his argument. However this subject has proved to be more important to be left to a few comments as it needs further analysis>>>

The same music playing on and on and on

Given the current single-minded focus on pure self preservation for pure personal good, over the slightest self sacrifice for the slightest common good, it is unclear when or if Iranians will ever make a collective shift from the nightmare of this Groundhog's Day, and gain true freedom anytime soon. This might finally explain why "I will Survive" is the average Iranian's favorite song. I mean for God's sake, it has been playing in our heads for 2500 years now!>>>

Recently, I attended a fundraising by International Society for Children with Cancer (ISCC) for MAHAK. I admit I didn’t know much about these organizations. I could blame such ignorance on a number of excuses, but my ultimate comfort came from the fact that it’s never too late. I have since learned that ISCC is an affiliate of MAHAK, one of the best children’s cancer centers in the Middle East that for years has offered free treatment to thousands of needy children>>>

Love & Lies

Before the dot-com revolution, I’d never heard the word “blog.” Then one day, I heard my kids talking amongst themselves about “blogs”. I listened in to make sure I had the word right before reaching for my big dictionary. Much to my chagrin, the dictionary jumped from ‘block” to ‘bloke” with no ‘blog’ in between. Oh, but by then I wasn’t about to give up. In fact, an obsession had started to build up inside me. I would never humiliate myself by asking my children>>>
