The Supreme State

Achaemenid Iran & Alexander

27-Jun-2010 (19 comments)
Iran’s ancient history may be difficult to grasp through modern perception especially with the Western mainstream knowledge of the Roman Empire, scholars are exposing an impressively liberal and powerful administration without boundaries. The establishment of Achaemenid Iran was the alliance of Iranian tribes in 539 BC when Cyrus the Great became King of the known world. Iran did not have one administrative centre: there was no single capital. The Royal cities of Susa, Persepolis, Babylon, Ekbatana and Sardis were all political, economic and military centres of the known world with the exception of Persepolis which was mostly a ceremonial capital for religious events>>>

Iran and the CIA: The Fall of Mosaddeq Revisited

15-Jun-2010 (26 comments)
The fall of Mosaddeq and the role of foreign forces and Iranians are still debated among scholars and politicians alike. Fifty seven years after August 19, 1953, the debate remains as fresh as the day that changed Iran. Darioush Bayandor has come up with a new book "Iran and the CIA: The Fall of Mosaddeq Revisited", in which argues the issues surrounding the events that led to the coup d’etat from a different perspective. Mr. Bayandor was an Iranian diplomat who held various posts at the United Nations during the Shah’s government>>>

The Evolutionary Road

Winding and dangerous struggle between modernity and tradition, authority and freedom, vengeance and tolerance

10-May-2010 (5 comments)
The Western legacy itself has had two contradicting effects in relationship to the host colonies. On the one hand, the Western ways are desired, for achieving the same level of advanced and civilized lifestyle. At the same time, the Western values are rejected, due to the ingrained mistrust and hatred invoked by the memories of colonial dominance. This love-and-hate relationship is more pronounced wherever the host culture is less robust and secure within its own merit and value system>>>

The Palestinians' Kiss of Death

In the Middle East, everything is a conspiracy theory

20-Apr-2010 (11 comments)
Palestinians were the only nation who unequivocally and actively supported the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Palestine has been a nation drowning in blood and tears for two generations, and like all the angrily desperate, grabs on any glimmer of hope for revenge on Israel and its friends. That is how; Saddam could readily use the local Palestinians in Kuwait for guarding the town and functioning as a make-shift police force. At the time of invasion, Iraq had the largest army in the region and the 4th in the world>>>

Meddling Mollahs

Excerpt from "Persia Revisited"

02-Apr-2010 (2 comments)
A change is coming over the country in regard to popular feeling towards priestly interference in personal and secular affairs. The claim to have control of the concerns of all men may now be said to be but the first flush of the fiery zeal of divinity students, fresh from the red-hot teachings of bigoted Moulla masters, who regret the loss of their old supremacy, and view with alarm the spread of Liberalism, which seems now to be establishing itself in Persia. There are now signs of the people resenting the arrogant assumption or power by the Moullas, and freeing themselves from their thraldom>>>

26-Mar-2010 (16 comments)

Journey to Alamut

The history of the Assassins did not end with the sack of Alamut

15-Mar-2010 (11 comments)
There is probably no other place in Iran better known around the world than the fortress of Alamut. This place has spawned so many legends of paradisiacal gardens, beautiful houris, intoxicated hashish addicts, ruthless assassins and other fanciful nonsense that they have reached to the utmost limits of incredulity. Yet for all that, it is a truly awe-inspiring place. Even had you known nothing of its religious or political history; even if you had never heard of Hasan Sabbah, of the Assassins, the Ismailis or the grand proclamation of the Qiyamat, this place would seize the mind of any casual traveller who beheld it>>>

Oil Man

Latif Ramazan-Nia, leading oil executive, 1921-2010

08-Mar-2010 (2 comments)
One of the tragedies for this generation of Iranians is that there are no structures in place to capture and house a record of their contributions for posterity. Under present conditions the meaning of the words "the past" and "posterity" has unfortunately become subjected to politics. In 1965 he was the first Iranian to be promoted to become General Refinery Manager. In 1971 he was appointed as an alternate Member of the Board of Directors of the National Iranian Oil Company (N.I.O.C) and the Head of Engineering and Projects Group where he worked until his self initiated retirement in November of 1974>>>

15-Feb-2010 (8 comments)

SIMILARITY

Mossadegh and Ahmadinejad

Iran faces almost the same dilemma as 1953

01-Feb-2010 (42 comments)
There is a stark similarity between some aspects of the political atmosphere dominant over Iran today and those under Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh right before the U.S.-led coup of 1953 that resulted in the overthrow of the legitimate government of Iran and the establishment of a U.S.-puppet government of the Shah. In the period between 1951-53, the U.S. in a close collaboration with the British colonial power through their channels within Iran's military and political apparatus, particularly the Shah’s court, was able to contrive division within the ruling circle and as a result the society at large>>>

The Persians

The first Iran-based civilization was created by the people of today’s Khuzestan

18-Jan-2010 (3 comments)
Fifty thousand years back, a group of Africans moved into Asia and Europe. When the last ice-age ended 10,000 years ago; a group of those migrants created the first world civilization (Sumer) in today’s Iraq. Later on, the Sumerian civilization was flooded by waves of Semitic immigrants (forefathers of today’s Jews and Arabs) and at about 5,000 years ago, morphed into the Akkadian civilization. The Akkadians in turn were defeated and absorbed into the Assyrian and Babylonian states>>>
