Officials fire Iranian governor after divination

Officials have fired a governor in northern Iran after they asked for guidance from God and decided he had to be dismissed.

The semiofficial Mehr news agency says Ali Babaei Karnami had only been appointed governor of Sari last month.

He was dismissed earlier this week as a formal ceremony was being organized for him to take up the position. There was no immediate comment from Karnami.

Provincial Governor Ali Akbar Tahaei said a "bad result of divination" was the reason behind Karnami's dismissal.
