The Leader of the Islamic Revolution warns against US and Western plots hatched with the aim of hijacking popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa.
In a meeting with Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei hailed the Islamic awakening in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya and said the recent popular movements run counter to the interests and demands of the US, West and Zionists.
The Leader underlined the importance of remaining vigilant against plots hatched by the US and its allies to stop popular movements in the region and said, “The US and West will not be able to do anything in the short run.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said the recent popular movements in the region were the start of a “fundamental development” in Muslim and regional countries and expressed hope that “we will witness a strong Islamic alliance in North Africa in the near future.”
The Leader pointed to the very important developments in Egypt and said the US and the Zionist regime (Israel) have lost their strong base in Egypt.
The US and its allies are making efforts to maybe succeed in derailing revolutionary movements in the long run, Ayatollah Khamenei said and called for efforts to prevent such events.
