Andrew Scott Cooper talked about his book based on previously-classified documents revealing how the price of oil drove U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. He discussed the deal for oil made between the Ford administration and the Saudi government in 1976 in an effort to undercut the power of the Organization of Oil Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the impact it had on the shah's regime in Iran. Mr. Cooper highlighted the comparisons with current economic conditions. He also responded to questions from members of the audience.
