A top Syrian negotiator has cancelled visit to the US at the last minute, declining to meet US officials for talks between the two countries.

Riad Daoudi, Syrian top negotiator with Israelis over the Golan Heights and legal adviser to the Syrian foreign ministry, had been asked at the last minute to remain in Damascus and cancel trip to the US to attend a forum on the US- Syrian relationship.
