Rights And Permissions

Last Updated: November 11, 2008

This document specifies in more depth the intellectual property rights to the Content on the Site, as those terms are defined in the User Agreement and Privacy Policy (the “Agreement”) published elsewhere on the Site and to which this Rights and Permissions page is made a part of and incorporated by reference.  Capitalized terms herein have the same meaning as defined in the Agreement.

This document also outlines how to obtain certain rights and permissions to republish Content.

1.   Copyright and Trademark – Content Creator.  The author, artist, songwriter, publisher, filmmaker, videographer or other content creator (collectively, "Content Creator") of textual, graphical, audio and/or video Content who submits Content for publication on the Site may assert or retain certain intellectual property rights in his or her Content, specifically copyright rights, trademarks/service marks (especially in advertising), trade dress rights, or, less commonly, patent rights.  Notice of such intellectual property rights, if asserted by the Content Creator, will appear within or adjacent to the Content itself.

Some Content Creators will copyright their works and immediately allow certain copying under a Creative Commons license.  In such cases, the Creative Commons license will appear within or adjacent to the Content involved.

2.   Copyright and Trademark – User as Contributor.  Sometimes the person making a Submission is not the Content Creator.  In such cases, the person making the Submission must have the authority to enter into the Agreement, and they warrant and represent in the Agreement that they have such authority.  The Submission may or may not assert or retain copyright or other intellectual property rights on behalf of the Content Creator.  If the copyright to the Submission is owned/retained by the Content Creator, the Notice of copyright (and the Creative Commons license, if applicable) will be published within or adjacent to the Content, as more fully defined in the Agreement.

3.   Submissions.  Under the terms of the Agreement, all users who make Submissions of Content grant to Iranian LLC a very broad license to use, edit, publish and copy the work.  Iranian LLC will include in or adjacent to the Content any Notice of intellectual property rights asserted or reserved by the Content Creator.  Iranian LLC hereby asserts and retains, to the fullest extent permissible under the law, a copyright for the compilation of all Content on the Site, as well as ownership of copyrights in all individual Content where the Content Creator has not expressly asserted and reserved intellectual property rights for himself or herself.

4.   Permissions To Republish – Content Creators May Grant You Permission Directly.  If the Content Creator of Content has asserted or reserved copyright or other intellectual property rights, or granted a Creative Commons license, then you may seek permission from the Content Creator directly (or use the Creative Commons license, if any, for instantaneous permission) to use, copy or republish the underlying Content, without permission from Iranian LLC.  If you wish to use any edits made by Iranian LLC to, or derivative works created by Iranian LLC from, the Content, as the same appear on the Site, then you need the express permission of Iranian LLC as set forth below.

5.   Links To Iranian.com.  Generally, you do not need permission to post on your blog or personal Web site a text link to any Content on iranian.com, provided that your reader is thereby hyperlinked directly to our Site.  Retrieving our Content and presenting it in a different context (e.g., in a frame on your personal Web site) does require our permission.

Using our logo or other graphic as a link to Iranian.com is not permitted without permission.

Using graphical, video or audio Content from our Site as a link on your personal Web site requires our permission.

6.   RSS Feeds.  The Site supports certain RSS feeds of the Content, and you may subscribe to them and read any Content published via the RSS feed for personal, non-commercial use only.  If you wish to republish the feed stream in your blog, another site or any mode other than a personal feed reader, you must first obtain permission as set forth below.

7.   Permission To Copy Or Republish – from Iranian LLC.   Because Iranian LLC maintains a very broad license to the Content, it can grant permission to copy and/or republish the Content broadly.  If you are seeking permission to copy or republish, kindly send your request by email to copyright<at sign>iranian<dot>com or by fax at (206) 279-4741.  Please indicate the details of the copying or republication requested (e.g., who, what, where, how, when, why, and to what extent).  Please also provide us with the URL of the Content you wish to copy or republish.  The information you provide to us will only be used to grant or deny permission and will not be retained.  We reserve the right to deny permission to copy or republish Content on the Site to anyone for any reason.
