Prior Diagnosis and Intervention is Needed

by Songstress (not verified) on

Please stop the mean-spirited name-calling.

This young lady would be suffering from a disease whose symptom is obesity. For example, as mentioned by Caroline, the teenager could be suffering from PWS. Even if, obesity is the primary disorder (rather than a symptom of another disorder), she needs our love, encouragement, support, and proper medical and psychological intervention. I, for one, wish Maryam and her family the best.

If, Calorie Outtake >

If, Calorie Outtake > Calorie Intake = Weight Loss. Simple.

It's not a medical condition... It's called being fat.

Eat less, start with some light physical activity and move on from there.

It's not as simple as that.

There is obviously some major disorder at work here. Food does play a part in it of course, because she is clearly not metabolizing the majority of what she takes in.

Being that rice and bread are staples of the Iranian diet, she may have a disorder that prevents her from burning carbs. Who really knows?

The fact is that instead of putting her on TV they need to put her on a gurney, and take her to a properly equipped medical facility that can run all of the necessary diagnostic tests and figure out what the heck is going on.

Prader-Willi Syndrome

by Carolyn C. (not verified) on

I happened to see your article on the 450 pound girl with the unknown disease. I just wanted to suggest the possibility that she might have Prader-Willi Syndrome. My daughter has this disorder and has many similar features of the girl in your article. There is an international association for Prader-Willi Syndrome that could possibly help this family determine if she has Prader-Willi Syndrome (I would be happy to get the information for you, if you would like). I was not able to listen to the interview with the family so perhaps they have already ruled out PWS - I just wanted to pass along this thought.

I wish them well

OMG

If this girl indeed suffers from some medical condition that has obviously halted her metabolic abilities, then why hasn't there been medical intervention? I mean real intervention, not a bunch of doctors looking at her, shaking their heads and going "okh okh okh" and calling that a consultation.

This is truly sad.
