I recall early 1970s, Friday nights Mr. Korosh Ali Khan has a jazz program on NIRT. Unfortunately, I was to young back then to get to know Jazz music. Good Luck Dr. Miller and I am glad that Iran was a good experience for you.

Jazz music is way too beautiful to fade away and be pushed into oblivion by the likes of Rock'n Roll. And add the Persian element to it, like you did, and it becomes noor-e alaa noor!! :-)

I had a discussion with a famous contemporary jazzman once, and he was telling me one of the reasons Jazz got sidelined was because "the government" (FBI? and I'm only quoting) began introducing and distributing heroin among the musicians in the fifties. What do you think about that? And let's say it wasn't the government, but that the drug became widespread for unrelated reasons, would you say that's one of the reasons for the deviation this music took?

Yes in the 1960s I was developing a new branch of jazz I called Oriental Jazz which did not blend but placed jazz side by side with other musical cultures which could easily have become the new direction in jazz. Unfortunately rock invaded the world and like the Mongols destroyed music leaving little of jazz or anything else that sensitive and intelligent beings could enjoy. So 'Oriental Jazz' died and along with it so did I as a possible jazz innovator except for a few years on NIRT in Iran during the 1970s. Maybe some future generation, if everyone doesn't go deaf from the loud 'music' that is everywhere, might find some old CD of us long gone jazzmen and, like the Rosetta Stone, decipher the dead language of jazz and possibly enjoy a few tunes.
